Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>DODOMA:<\/b> THE government is currently drafting a new national policy on disability (NPD) to replace the current policy that was drafted in 2004, the House was informed here yesterday.<\/p>\n

This was said yesterday by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office responsible for Policy, Coordination and Parliamentary Affairs, Ummy Nderiananga when responding to a supplementary question posed by Special Seats legislator, Khadija Taya (CCM).<\/p>\n

The lawmaker she wanted to know if the government had plans so far to put up a conducive environment for people with albinism during official public events and functions.<\/p>\n

And during the main question, the MP asked when the government will ensure that there are special areas for persons with disabilities during public rallies so as to make sure that they do not position themselves in sunny places.<\/p>\n

In response, the Deputy Minister said the National Policy on Disability 2004 through its various declarations shows how persons with disabilities should be engaged in both social and political functions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, provisions of the Persons with Disabilities Act explain well the participation of people with disabilities in social and political activities,\u2019\u2019 noted the deputy minister.<\/p>\n

She further urged all leaders in the public service and other stakeholders in the private sector to ensure that security and protection of persons with disabilities was highly considered.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, the government is advising persons with disabilities to refrain from engaging in an environment that can pose danger to their livelihood,\u201d added Ms Nderiananga<\/p>\n
