Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE government is currently reviewing all roads construction contracts under Engineering, Procurement, Construction Plus Financing (EPC+F) model, which it signed with different construction companies.<\/p>\n

The new move seeks to establish a new process for the construction of the roads basing on quality and standards, according to deputy minister for Transport, Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya.<\/p>\n

Eng Kasekenya was responding to a main question posed by Mbozi Member of Parliament, Gerorge Mwenisongole (CCM) who had wanted to know when the government would accomplish its procedures to obtain the contractor for Mlowo-Kamsamba road at tarmac level.<\/p>\n

Responding, Eng Kasekenya said that the construction of 130-kilometre Mlowo-Kamsamba road was being implemented in phases depending on the available funds.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlready, the government has completed the construction of the Momba bridge with 84 metres long and on October 21, 2024 it signed yet another contract for the construction of a 60-meter Mpapa\/Mkonko bridge,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

The deputy minister further informed that procurement procedures to have a tarmacked 5-kilometre road from Mlowo to Kamsamba and five other roads were currently ongoing.<\/p>\n

However, Engineer Kasekenya added, the government was now reviewing all contracts under EPC + F so as to come up with new measures to see the contracts completed timely.<\/p>\n

On June 16, the government through the Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS) signed seven different contracts for construction of 2,035-kilometre roads valued at 3.8tri\/-.<\/p>\n

The roads are currently being constructed through Engineering, Procurement, Construction Plus Financing (EPC+F) The roads which are currently under construction include: Kidatu \u2013 Ifakara \u2013 Lupiro \u2013 Malinyi \u2013 Kilosa Kwa Mpepo \u2013 Londo \u2013 Lumecha\/ Songea (435.8km); Arusha \u2013 Kibaya \u2013 Kongwa (453.42km); Handeni \u2013 Kiberashi \u2013 Kijungu \u2013 Kibaya \u2013 Njoro \u2013 Olboroti \u2013 Mrijo Chini \u2013 Dalai \u2013 Bicha \u2013 Chambolo \u2013 Chemba \u2013 Kwa Mtoro \u2013 Singida (384.33km). Others are Igawa \u2013 Songwe \u2013 Tunduma (four-lane) (237.9km); Masasi \u2013 Nachingwea \u2013 Liwale (175km); Karatu \u2013 Mbulu \u2013 Haydom \u2013 Sibiti River \u2013 Lalago \u2013 Maswa (339km) and Mafinga \u2013 Mtwango \u2013 Mgololo (81km).<\/p>\n

In November last year, the government recorded yet another milestone in the road construction sector after the government put pen to paper to about 15 different projects valued at 1.34tril\/-.<\/p>\n
