Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA\u2019S Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, has held bilateral talks with Russia\u2019s Minister of Energy, Sergey Tsivilev, to explore ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector and other key areas such as technology and investment. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in Russia.<\/p>\n

During the talks, Dr. Biteko welcomed Russian investors to explore more opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in clean cooking energy. He emphasized that Tanzania offers a conducive investment climate with numerous opportunities, and highlighted the government\u2019s ongoing efforts to encourage private sector participation in development projects.<\/p>\n

Dr. Biteko reported that Russian investment in Tanzania currently stands at USD 424 million through 44 projects, which have created employment for over 3,000 people. He also noted that 61.7% of Tanzania\u2019s energy is sourced from renewable resources, and the country presents investment opportunities in the energy sector valued at approximately USD 4 billion.<\/p>\n

To demonstrate the government\u2019s commitment to energy sector reform, Dr. Biteko outlined several initiatives, including promoting the use of clean cooking energy and encouraging public-private partnerships. He cited the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit held in Dar es Salaam in January 2025, which aimed to extend electricity access to 600 million Africans currently without power.<\/p>\n

Beyond economic discussions, Dr. Biteko underscored the importance of the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Tanzania and Russia, which now spans 64 years. He noted that this enduring partnership continues to yield benefits for the citizens of both countries through socio-economic collaboration.<\/p>\n

For his part, Russia\u2019s Minister of Energy, Sergey Tsivilev, emphasized that energy is the foundation of economic development, pointing out key focus areas such as energy security, availability, affordability, and efficiency as priorities in Russia\u2019s cooperation with African countries.<\/p>\n

Tsivilev added that Russia is ready to support Africa, including Tanzania, with technology transfer and professional training to build local capacity and ensure technological independence. He stressed that Russia follows a fair and long-term strategy to help partner countries strengthen their energy systems.<\/p>\n
