Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong> <\/span>THE Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has commended the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) for successfully delivering 81 emergency infrastructure projects nationwide, describing the effort as a benchmark in tackling flood-related challenges.<\/p>\n

The projects implemented under the Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) special programme focused on the construction of bridges and culverts and have significantly strengthened the country\u2019s road network, particularly during heavy rains.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Morogoro when opening the 21st TANROADS Workers\u2019 Council meeting, Ulega said the projects were completed on time and to high quality standards, largely by local contractors, reflecting the growing capacity of domestic expertise.<\/p>\n

The minister credited President Samia Suluhu Hassan for facilitating the funding that made the projects possible, noting that the investment is already yielding tangible results.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the impact of ongoing rains this year has been considerably reduced compared to previous years, thanks to improved infrastructure resilience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese emergency projects demonstrate the capability of our TANROADS experts to plan and execute complex works with great professionalism. They are a clear example of how we can effectively address flooding challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister further called for assessments to identify additional areas requiring modern bridges.<\/p>\n

Ulega also urged TANROADS leaders and staff across the country to maintain diligence, professionalism and innovation, while upholding discipline in their work.<\/p>\n

He stressed the importance of preserving and building on the agency\u2019s founding principles to support Tanzania\u2019s vision of a robust infrastructure network.<\/p>\n

The minister further directed the timely maintenance of roads and bridges to minimise inconvenience to the public, alongside implementing beautification initiatives, including planting shade and fruit trees along road corridors.<\/p>\n

TANROADS has played a crucial role in enhancing Tanzania’s infrastructure, particularly in response to natural disasters like floods. The agency’s focus on local contractors has not only improved project delivery but also built domestic capacity in construction and engineering. Over the years, investments in infrastructure have been pivotal in supporting economic growth and resilience against climate challenges, reflecting the government’s commitment to developing a robust road network that meets the needs of its citizens.<\/p>\n
