{"id":151596,"date":"2026-04-28T15:56:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T15:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/nbc-pushes-farmers-into-formal-banking"},"modified":"2026-04-28T16:48:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T16:48:33","slug":"nbc-pushes-farmers-into-formal-banking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/nbc-pushes-farmers-into-formal-banking","title":{"rendered":"NBC Pushes Farmers into Formal Banking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania. <\/strong> <\/span>THE National Bank of Commerce has launched its \u201cWekeza NBC Shambani Ushinde\u201d campaign in Ruvuma Region, targeting financial inclusion and productivity in agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative focuses on improving financial literacy and access to services across key value chains of sesame, soybean, pigeon peas and tobacco in three districts namely Songea, Namtumbo and Tunduru.<\/p>\n<p>Namtumbo District Administrative Secretary, Francis Ngoroka said during the launch that limited access to finance, knowledge and risk management tools has constrained growth in the region, thus highlighting the importance of integrating farmers into formal financial systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis campaign lays a strong foundation for sustainable agricultural transformation,\u201d he said. NBC\u2019s Head of Retail and Agribusiness Banking, Raymond Urassa (pictured), said the four-month programme, running from June to September, will provide training alongside financial services such as crop and health insurance, agency banking, digital platforms and financing for inputs and mechanisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are offering zero monthly fee accounts,\u201d Mr Urassa said. He added: \u201cThis is about building a financially empowered farming community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The campaign also includes incentives of smartphones, motorcycles and laptops, mostly to encourage participation among individual farmers and cooperative societies.
