\nAfricaPress-Tanzania:<\/strong> KAGERA Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Professor Faustin Kamuzora has challenged Councils in the country to establish cultural heritage libraries for the benefit of future generations.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the World Older Peoples\u2019 Day at Rulanda Ward, in Muleba District, Kamuzora said Kagera Region had a long history in culture including traditional narrations (okwebuga), dances (omutoro) and marriage ceremonies (okujuga), but unfortunately many of these cultures were not well documented.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncils should treat this matter with utmost urgency. Each council should list down at least two elder persons with background in culture and record their experiences,\u201d he said also promising to pay costs for the exercise.<\/p>\n

According to Kamuzora, the region had about 161,284 persons, an equivalent to 4.6 per cent of the population who were aged above 60 years while 82,716 of them had already been issued with health certificates.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that to-date about 720 Older Peoples\u2019 Forums (OPF) had been established.<\/p>\n

Muleba District had so far established 207 Older Peoples\u2019 Forums, Karagwe (101), Bukoba DC (105), Missenyi (90), Ngara (59), Kyerwa (45), Bukoba Municipal (55) and Biharamulo (58). Kamuzora also launched the Older Peoples\u2019 Forums.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
