AfricaPress-Tanzania:<\/strong> THE Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) has announced the arrival of its Election Observation Mission (EOM) in Tanzania to observe the General Election.<\/p>\n

The EISA EOM is in Tanzania at the invitation of National Elections\u00a0Commission (NEC) to conduct an independent assessment of the electoral process.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0mission comprised\u00a0of 14 international\u00a0observers drawn from Civil Society Organisations\u00a0(CSOs) and Election Management Bodies (EMBs)\u00a0from across Africa.<\/p>\n

The EISA EOM is led by Ms\u00a0Pansy Dikeledi Tlakula, former\u00a0Chairperson,\u00a0and Electoral Commission of South Africa.<\/p>\n

She is deputised\u00a0by EISA\u2019s Senior Manager for Governance Institutions and Political Processes, Mr Grant Masterson and supported by a coordination and technical team.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0IEOM is the 4th to be deployed by\u00a0EISA in Tanzania since the 1999 elections.<\/p>\n

The mission will base its assessment on the legal framework governing elections in the\u00a0United\u00a0Republic of Tanzania and the OAU\/AU Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic\u00a0Elections, the standards and obligations\u00a0stipulated in the African Charter on Democracy, Elections\u00a0and Governance, the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.<\/p>\n

Others are the Principles for\u00a0Election Management, Monitoring and Observation (PEMMO) and the International Declaration of\u00a0Principles for\u00a0International Election Observation.<\/p>\n

The EISA observers will be deployed to seven (7) regions in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar to observe key processes, beginning with electoral campaigns, pre-polling activities, Election Day and post-polling activities.<\/p>\n

On 30 October 2020,\u00a0the EISA EOM will prepare a statement on its preliminary\u00a0findings and recommendations on the electoral process up to the voting and counting phases.
