{"id":18394,"date":"2020-11-11T20:00:55","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T20:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/tanzania\/?p=18394"},"modified":"2020-11-11T20:00:55","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T20:00:55","slug":"talk-to-children-with-special-needs-about-abuse-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/community\/talk-to-children-with-special-needs-about-abuse-ministry","title":{"rendered":"TALK TO CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS ABOUT ABUSE, MINISTRY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-Tanzania:<\/strong> STUDENTS with special needs have been urged to learn different techniques to escape abuse and violation of their rights.<\/p>\n<p>The advice was given here on Monday by Ms Fatma Mbaraka Hashim- head of Inclusive and study skills, Zanzibar Ministry of Education &amp; Vocational Training when opening a sign language class for deaf students at Mwanakwerekwe A School.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hashim said that educating children in sign language and other techniques in communication is important because it helps them understand what abuse is and how to protect themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is sad that despite global and national campaigns against child protection, abuse escalates, and children with disabilities also fall victims. Let us help them know how they can protect themselves,&#8221; he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The officer urged parents, teachers, students, and members of the public to team-up against abuse of children, saying that the government remains fully committed to see that everyone in the country, including people with disability live safely.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from police, Judiciary, responsible ministry, activist groups, and OCGS, abuse of children and women in both Unguja and Pemba are still common, as the new President, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi promises to find workable measures to fight the menace.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 67 deaf students (of STD IV, VI, F.II, and F.IV from Mwanawerekwe A,F, H, schools, School of commerce, and Mfenesini schools, and 26 teachers were trained in sign language.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AfricaPress-Tanzania: STUDENTS with special needs have been urged to learn different techniques to escape abuse and violation of their rights.
