Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>WARD Councilors and departmental heads attached to the Kiteto District Council have been urged to shun corrupt practices and exhibit professionalism while discharging their duties.<\/p>\n

Speaking when officiating a training to ward councilors here yesterday, Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) regional head Holle Makungu appealed to the ward representatives and a host of heads of departmental heads to work diligently and expose officers engaged in dubious deals.<\/p>\n

The anti-corruption officer stressed that it was equally important for the representatives of the wards to cooperate with the anticorruption watchdog in unearthing corrupt practices within the walls of the district council.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep us in the loop once you come across any questionable undertakings which are likely to mint money from the council\u2019s coffers and you\u2019ll be guaranteed of confidentiality and anonymity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said his office had put up a toll-free number to expedite investigations of corrupt practices in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore often than not some departmental heads have found themselves on the wrong side of the law simply because they awarded tender to companies owned and managed by some ward councilors,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n

Such tenders have seen poor workmanship in some multi-billion projects with some dishonest ward councilors pocketing hefty amount of ill-gotten money, according to Mr Makungu.<\/p>\n

Kiteto Member of Parliament Edward Ole Lekaita challenged councillors to make the most of the PCCB training in instilling professionalism and work diligently in their respective roles.<\/p>\n

He appealed to the councillors to play their oversight role before the district council so that all the projects benefit Kiteto residents.<\/p>\n

Kiteto District is one of the five administrative Districts of Manyara Region. It borders Simanjiro District in the north, Kilindi District in the east, Kilosa and Kongwa Districts in the south.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
