Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue innovating useful schemes and help in rolling- out soft loans to teachers in the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a meeting of the Tanzania Union of High School Principals (TAHOSSA), the bank\u2019s Regional Manager Happiness Kizigira asked more teachers to open bank accounts with NBC.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the occasion, TAHOSSA President, Frank Mahenge, said among the challenges facing teachers in the country, was high interest loans that discourage them.<\/p>\n

He cited other challenges as incidents of schools being set on fire, unpaid teachers\u2019 arrears, lack of capacity building training for school principals and lack of transport especially at boarding schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother challenge is the lack of transport facilities to schools, but recently we had the challenge of some schools being set ablaze and many schools not having strong fences, thus endangering the safety of staff and students,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

These challenges are likely to be an opportunity for NBC bank which already has a wide range of educational services including education insurance, school accounts, student accounts, as well as low interest loans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been providing different capacity building training, as well as informing teachers that we have different categories of insurances, which can help them in many disasters, and the response has been very good and we will not stop as we are trying to reach out to many teachers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In addition, Mr Mahenge said, in helping teachers achieve their goals the bank has set up a special goals account that will enable them to save money and earn interest every month for one year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also have school accounts and these are specifically for the schools, because their income is low thus simplifying their revenue collection from their students. We also have accounts for children and students which have no monthly deductions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
