Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) Referees Committee has appointed 47 referees and assistant referees – including Video Assistant Referees – from 31 countries in the continent to officiate at the forthcoming Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held from 16 January to 7 February in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

None of the Tanzanian referee appears in the list, despite having those with international licences.<\/p>\n

The selection of the final group of referees, according to CAF\u2019s statement that was made available in its website, was made on the basis of their physical and athletic skills, as well as their understanding of football including their ability to read the game.<\/p>\n

Tanzania is one the countries that will field teams in the tournament as Taifa Stars are currently undergoing training at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club to prepare for international friendly match against Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n

The Taifa Stars have been pooled in Group D together with Zambia, Namibia, and Guinea at the tournament.<\/p>\n

They will play Zambia on January 19, against Namibia on January 23 and against Guinea on January 27. The Taifa Stars made it to the Chan finals after knocking out Sudan in the final round of qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Defending champions and hosts Cameroon are in Group A and will have to prove their worth against Mali, Burkina Faso, and Zimbabwe while Group B is made up of Libya, DR Congo, Congo, and Niger.<\/p>\n

Rwanda and Uganda will meet in an East African derby as they are stacked in Group C together with Morocco and Togo. Before going to Cameroon, Taifa Stars will play DR Congo in an international friendly match.<\/p>\n

The match will be played tomorrow at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. It is part of the team\u2019s preparations ahead of their trip to Cameroon.<\/p>\n

Among those selected are from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Djibouti and Madagascar. A female quartet is integrated into the squad, confirming CAF\u2019s decision to include female referees in men\u2019s competitions.<\/p>\n

They are central referee Lydia Tafesse Abebe (Ethiopia) and assistant referees Bernadetta Kwimbira (Malawi), Mimisen Lyorhe (Nigeria) and Carine Atezambong Fomo (Cameroon).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
