Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Parliamentary Budget Committee is expected from next Monday to start deliberating on the Five-Year National Development Plan stretching between 2021 and 2025.<\/p>\n

The task is among the activities lined up to be undertaken by the Budget Committee in two-week time when all the committees meet in Dodoma with effect from next week to start performing their watchdog role.<\/p>\n

The committee will also deliberate on the roadmap for planning the state’s budget estimates and expenditures for the 2021\/22 fiscal year and the assessment report on the implementation of the second Five-Year National Development Plan whose execution started from 2016\/17 to 2020\/2021.<\/p>\n

According to a statement released on Wednesday in Dodoma by the Parliament\u2019s Communications and International Relations Unit, Members of Parliament (MPs) are required to report to the capital this Sunday ready to start fulfilling their responsibilities on Monday.<\/p>\n

“Committees will meet to first elect chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of each committee, undergo training on committee procedures and examine institutional issues ahead of the upcoming parliament meeting,” read part of the statement.<\/p>\n

It is the first Assembly bringing MPs most of whom were newly elected following the October general election in which the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) retained majority seats in the law-making organ.<\/p>\n

Details from the Parliament said the MPs will also be trained on e-parliament and cyber security. It is expected that the sector committee will be briefed about the ministry’s structures, duties, policy and legal frameworks governing institutions under the specific ministry.<\/p>\n

Training on Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Local Authorities Accounts Committee (LAAC), Public Investment Committee (PIC) and the Budget Committee will be based on analysing the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, Treasurer Registrar (TR) and approach to hold accounting officers accountable.<\/p>\n

Other training will be on subsidiary legislation committees to be able to analyze laws in line with other commonwealth parliaments.<\/p>\n

During the sitting which runs for two weeks in Dodoma, the Budget Committee is also set to receive and review performance of the first half of the 2020\/21 budget implementation.<\/p>\n

The current 34.88tri\/-budget focuses on the implementation of key strategic development projects as well as propelling the industrial economy and poverty reduction agendas.<\/p>\n

Key development projects financed by the current budget include the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in the country’s central transport corridor, and the Nyerere hydropower project at the Stiegler’s Gorge along Rufiji River.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
