Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Katavi region\u2019s mineral centre has transacted gold worth 53bn\/- in a year and a half thanks to the establishment of the market.<\/p>\n

The market data showed that the mineral exchange sold gold weighing 505.632kilogrames between July 2019 and December 2020.<\/p>\n

Previous, Katavi Region Commissioner (RC) Mr Juma Homera, told \u2018Daily News, before opening the mineral centre the gold sold was merely sold 129 grams.<\/p>\n

“\u201cThis is a big achievement indeed,” Mr Homera said:<\/p>\n

\u201c[Since] when I reported in 2019 as RC, the region had collected and sold only 129 grams of gold but after the establishment of the mineral market, the story is different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Katavi is among the five regions leading in mining activities across the country.<\/p>\n

The amount realising enabled the government to earn 3.4bn\/- being 6.0 per cent of royalty and 533m\/- being a 1.0 per cent of inspection fees.<\/p>\n

According to RC, Nsimbo Council and Mpanda District Council together have pocketed 160 m\/-<\/p>\n

Mr Homera urged small scale miners and gold dealers to fully utilize the opportunity of having such official mineral market in their midst rather than smuggling minerals.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, RC further told this paper that the regional has also collected and sold silver weighing 391kgs of which the government has earned over 53m\/- as royalty and inspection fees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
