Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>MINISTRY of water has promised to clear debts it owes contractors of water projects, saying it has already received 25bn\/- from the treasury for the purpose.<\/p>\n

Minister Jumaa Aweso made the assurance in Parliament, and used the opportunity to warn water engineers against malpractices.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon directives from President Samia Suluhu Hassan when addressing the Parliament, I tell them to get prepared,\u201d Mr Aweso stated.<\/p>\n

He was responding to a supplementary question from Dr Pius Stephen (Manyoni East-CCM) who asked the ministry over plan to settle debts it owes the contractors of water projects.<\/p>\n

Earlier, in his basic question, Dr Stephen wanted to know when the government would complete construction of Kintinku-Lusilile water project so that people in 11 villages could start getting clean and safe water.<\/p>\n

Explaining, the deputy minister Maryprisca Mahundi admitted that the Kintinku-Lusilile project was a huge project.<\/p>\n

She said the project was implemented in four phases and by last March the first phase reached 90 per cent and a total of 2.bn\/- was spent.<\/p>\n

Some of the works done were installation of water pumps, construction of water pump stations, building 300,000-litre water tanks and constructing a tank with a capacity of storing 2 million litres for supplying water.<\/p>\n

However, she said, three villages of Chikuyu, Mwiboo and Mbwasaare were expected to get water service from next June.<\/p>\n

She also assured that through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), the government was well organized to complete the project for supplying water in 11 villages during the next financial year to benefit over 55,000 residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
