Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) ministers responsible for labour and employment will hold a virtual meeting tomorrow to review implementation of Covid-19 measures by Member States.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be chaired by the Mozambican Minister for Labor and Social Security, Ms Margarida Adamugy Talapa, whereas SADC\u2019s Acting Executive Secretary General Dr Thembinkosi Mhlongo will serve as the assistant chairman.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by SADC\u2019s Public Relations Unit, in attendance at the meeting there will also be social partners.<\/p>\n

The virtual meeting will also consider the SADC Employment and Labour Policy Framework (2020- 2030) draft and deliberate as well as give guidance on the roadmap on development of the new protocol on the sector.<\/p>\n

The ministerial meeting is preceded by a two-day online conference of senior officials which kicked off yesterday and will conclude today ahead of tomorrow\u2019s programme.<\/p>\n

SADC virtual meetings are held following response to recommendations of the bloc\u2019s minister\u2019s for health, who met in Dar es Salaam last year when the country was presiding over the chairmanship of the regional body.<\/p>\n

The decision was made as part of efforts to fight the spread of the coronavirus which has had devastating global impacts since its outbreak in December 2019.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, health ministers agreed on how to harmonize and coordinate preparedness and response to Covid-19 in the SADC region.<\/p>\n

They also noted the status of the level of preparedness of the Member States in addressing Covid-19, and urged bloc members to put in place national preparedness and response plans as well as contingency and emergency funds to address gaps in prevention, impact mitigation and other interventions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
