Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) is holding the own staff member, Zainab Mohamed Jabir, for allegedly soliciting and receiving 50m\/- bribe.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued here on Saturday by the Bureau\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Ms Doreen Kapwani on behalf of Director General, Brigadier General John Mbungo, the PCCB officer was arrested in connection with the offences contrary to section 15 of Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis servant solicited 50m\/- from one person (name withheld) on claim of assisting such person in the allegations being investigated by the PCCB. Investigations of this claim is going on and appropriate actions will be taken after completion of the investigations,\u201d read part of the statement.<\/p>\n

Last week, through the Bureau\u2019s Office in Arusha Region, the PCCB arrested seven police officers on claims of soliciting 200m\/- from one businessman from such city and received 100m\/.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the PCCB in Manyara Region also reported to have arrested an officer with the National Prosecutions Office from the region for soliciting and receiving bribe of 5m\/- from some people suspected of committing crimes.<\/p>\n

Ms Doreen Kapwani, on behalf of the PCCB Director General, also reported through the statement availability of bad behavior from some people of conning others through impersonation by introducing themselves of having different occupations, including being officers of the Bureau.<\/p>\n

The Bureau\u2019s Public Relations Officer stated that such conmen have been making calls and introduce themselves as PCCB officers and tell people that their allegations against them were with the PCCB and summon them to the Bureau\u2019s office for interrogations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PCCB congratulates those who managed to identify those people as conmen and report to the Bureau immediately. However, we continue insisting to the citizens not to agree to be conned by any one. When you receive a call of this nature you should report to a nearby PCCB office,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the PCCB Director General, Ms Kapwani thanked the citizens and other stakeholders who have been cooperating with them in facilitating the fight against corruption in the country for reporting those involved in bribery actions.<\/p>\n

The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau has been fulfilling its responsibilities of preventing and combating of corruption in the country as indicated under the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act No. 11 of 2007.<\/p>\n

Through these responsibilities, the PCCCB has been informing the public on different successes resulting from the implementation of their responsibilities, including informing the people about public servants arrested on suspicion of soliciting and receiving bribe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
