Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>HANDENI district council is running awareness seminars on employment and business prospects of the upcoming East African Crude Oil Pipeline project (EACOP) from Uganda to Tanzania\u2019s Tanga region. In an interview with the \u2018Daily News\u2019 recently, Handeni District Commissioner Toba Nguvila said it was important to educate locals on the fortunes that come with the multi-billion project.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have initiated community awareness seminars to wananchi on how they would benefit from the project implementation, we targeted different groups among them women,youths,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

There would be a myriad of opportunities on course of the project for Tanzanians including supplying of equipment, security services, food and beverage services, hospitality services, human resource management.<\/p>\n

\u201c We also have large areas of investment, hence investors are warmly welcomed to invest aimed at giving employment to our residents,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Muheza is an agricultural district in which 70 per cent of its domestic income depends on taxes and levies from agricultural products. The EACOP project in Tanzania is supervised by Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) for Tanga region passes into five districts of Tanga, Muheza, Korogwe, Handeni and Kilindi. Once completed, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline from Uganda is expected to generate 496bn\/- in revenues and offer 10,000 employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

Last month, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni witnessed the signing of the EACOP in the Tripartite Project Agreement whereby all parties committed to the realization of the project for the benefit of all parties including the people of Tanzania and Uganda.<\/p>\n

The agreement, signed at Uganda\u2019s Entebbe State House, paves the way for the construction of a 1,440-km crude oil pipeline from Uganda\u2019s Albertine region to Tanzanian seaport city of Tanga.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
