Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE much awaited new double lane Wami Bridge project in Chalinze Council, Bagamoyo District, Coast Region is expected to be completed in mid-September this year. This was confirmed by the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Coast Regional Manager Engineer Yudas Msangi.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the construction site a couple of days ago, Eng Msangi said that construction activities of the bridge, which is fully funded by the government at the cost of 68bn\/-, had reached 50.5 per cent and that the main challenge at the time being is the ongoing rainfalls.<\/p>\n

However, he assured that the work would be completed on time as intended. \u201cConstruction work is proceeding well despite on-going rainfalls and we are determined to finish this project on September 16th 2021,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further explained that the new bridge which, would have a length of 510 metres and 11.85 metres width and would also have connecting roads with a total length of 3.8 kilometers. Already, clearing and grabbing work has been done to 3.25 km, which is equal to 86 percent of these roads. Eng. Msangi noted that security lights would be installed at the bridge which will also have space for pedestrians on both sides.<\/p>\n

According to Eng Msangi, already a sum of 10. 17bn\/-, which is equal to 15 percent of the total money, has been paid to the Contractor- Power Construction Corporation Limited of China. New Wami Bridge is going to replace the current one which was built in 1959 and is single lane. It has a length of 88.75 metres and was constructed at a steep slope causing congestion and accidents now and then.<\/p>\n

Some of the residents living nearby the construction site and drivers who are using the route have expressed their gratitude to the government for realizing the benefits of the new bridge for the nation at large<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
