Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE government has put in place mechanisms to ensure that all livestock are sold by its appropriate weight rather than guessing as is done in most auctions.<\/p>\n

This was said in Dodoma on Wednesday by the Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary, Aziza Mumba while opening training session for traders and entrepreneurs in the region organized by the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) to enable them to know the importance of proper measurements.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Dr Binilith Mahenge, Ms Mumba said they needed to make sure that scales used by buyers meet the required standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cI advise our local government authorities in their areas to make sure accurate scales are used to ensure all livestock are sold by weighing rather than speculating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said the benefits of using proper scales will be visible to all stakeholders, both the producer and the person who is going to use the product, as they will be sure that the value of their money corresponds to product bought. Ms Mumba said the training session would enable traders and manufacturers to better understand the importance of adhering to accurate measurements.<\/p>\n

She said the government has been conducting assessments to ensure that all citizens and stakeholders understand the importance of measurements due to its sensitivity in the development of the country. She further clarified that in Dodoma alone, there are more than 3,000 factories, including sunflower processing firms, flour mills and wineries.<\/p>\n

For her part the Acting Chief Executive Officer of WMA, Stella Kahwa, said the WMA\u2019s main role is to protect the consumer through the proper use of tests.<\/p>\n
