Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) Board of Directors has assured the public that electricity connection to the remaining villages will be completed by the end of December next year.<\/p>\n

The Board Chairman Dr Alexander Kyaruzi said that the third phase-TANESCO rural electrification programme set for national launching in Mtwara is expected to cover all the remaining villages.<\/p>\n

He made the revelation during a meeting between the board members and Mtwara District Commissioner Danstan Kyobya. The board was on a two day official tour to assess the progress of power projects in Mtwara Region.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to assure you (Mtwara DC) \u2026TANESCO is fully committed to ensure that all the remaining villages will be connected with electricity by December next year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Dr Kyaruzi called upon investors to invest in Mtwara because the region currently has reliable power crucial for promoting socio-economic developments to the region. He said TANESCO has supported the Mtwara Power plant by installing two new machines that has increased power generation from 18 MW to 30.4MW.<\/p>\n

The newly installed machines have the capacity to produce 4.3MW each. On the other hand, Dr Kyaruzi said that the Staterun power utility is also set to build a 300MW power generation facility in Mtwara District that will also lead to more supply of power in Mtwara, Lindi and neighboring regions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is set to start very soon. We have already secured a suitable place for construction of the plant,\u201d he further pointed out, adding that the project will open up several job opportunities in the Southern of Tanzania and other places in the country.<\/p>\n

In another development, the DC asked TANESCO to give first priority to villages in Tanzania- Mozambique Border during the implementation of the third phase rural electrification programme. He said villages bordering the neighboring country need to be connected to electricity to ensure security for the citizens and their properties.<\/p>\n

He named the wards which are yet to be connected to power as Kitaya, Msimbati, Madimba, Tangazo, Maulunga, Kilomba, and Kiyanga.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
