Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>DELIVERY of high-quality health care is the government\u2019s top priority, the Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children said yesterday.<\/p>\n

Tabling the ministry\u2019s budget estimates for the next financial year, the minister in charge of the docket, Dr Doroth Gwajima outlined sound investment in health and development as among major priorities to be implemented in the next financial year.<\/p>\n

She asked the Parliament to endorse 1.1tri\/- for her ministry during the 2021\/2022 Financial Year, up from 933.3bn\/- allocated in the previous fiscal year.<\/p>\n

Dr Gwajima pointed out the ambitious budget was pegged on the fact that her ministry was fully committed to improving the country\u2019s health sector.<\/p>\n

During the next financial year the government will focus on key priority areas sought to revamp the health sector as well as improving service delivery, Dr Gwajima told the August House.<\/p>\n

According to Dr Gwajima, the government will in the next fiscal year spend about 63.2bn\/- in procuring and distributing vaccinations.<\/p>\n

Among other areas that have been allocated budget in the next financial year include Procurement and distribution of drugs and other medical equipment (263.8bn\/-) which part of the money will be used in the war against HIV\/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis.<\/p>\n

Others are improvement of infrastructures at various medical facilities, countrywide including National, Regional, Referral and Zonal Hospitals at the tune of 105.9bn.<\/p>\n

Dr Gwajima further told the House that the government would spend 6.8bn\/- in improving specialized services at all major hospitals in the country.<\/p>\n

In improving infrastructures at various health colleges in the country, Dr Gwajima said the government was planning to spend 11.1bn\/- which part of it would be spent in footing bills for examinations and food for students.<\/p>\n

Dr Gwajima said the government will also coordinate the establishment of child protection desks at all schools in all district councils countrywide.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will equally intensify campaigns on early and child marriages, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and other forms of violence against children, through community radio stations by using opinion leaders in Njombe, Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe and Kigoma Regions,\u2019\u2019 she noted.<\/p>\n

Others include intensifying training on positive parenthood to Community Development Officers countrywide as well as similar training to teachers and health workers.<\/p>\n

Presenting views of the Parliamentary Committee on Services and Community Development, the Committee Chairman, Stanslaus Nyongo commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her decision to increase the age of dependency from 18 years to 21.<\/p>\n

He also underscored the need to have proper procedures when preparing the Bill for National Health Insurance for all. \u201cThe matter has been long overdue, however, my committee has been informed that the process is still ongoing,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Nyongo said that 231m\/- had already been allocated to implement the process to come up with the new legislation, as he underscored the need for engaging all Tanzanians during all processes.<\/p>\n

Some MPs when debating the budget estimates for the ministry, called for the need to intensify war on FGM as they said the uncouth act was denying women of their rights.<\/p>\n

Among them was Special Seats Lawmaker, Hawa Mchafu (CCM) who asked men to come up in one voice and denounce FGM acts as they had a role to play instead of leaving the fight to women alone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
