Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE government does not intend to start empowering men instead it is focusing to empower women, youth and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Deputy Minister in the President\u2019s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Dr. Festo Dugange issued the government position in the parliament on Thursday, when responding to a question from Moshi Urban legislator Priscus Tarimo.<\/p>\n

Dr Dugange said the government\u2019s focus is to empower special groups that are unable to secure loans from financial institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purpose of these loans is to support special groups in the community who are unable to obtain loans from commercial banks and financial Institutions due to difficult and unfriendly conditions including collateral and high interest rates,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On his question, Mr Tarimo sought to know whether the government was planning to expand the scope of loans from local government authorities to also support men.<\/p>\n

Dr Dugange said the loans are provided in accordance with section 37A of the Local Government Finance Act Chapter 290.<\/p>\n

The legislation directs allocation of 10 per cent of the revenue collected by the Councils and distribute four per cent for women, four per cent for youth and two per cent for persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
