Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>SPICE production project on the 10 hectares has failed due to among other factors underperformance of the production groups, which were involved.<\/p>\n

Agriculture, Irrigation, Natural Resources and Livestock Minister Soud Nahoda Hassan told the House of Representatives here on Friday that the government had since 2018 mobilised 13 youth groups to grow spices on a pilot project in the rubber farms.<\/p>\n

Despite the one and 12 groups in Unguja and Pemba, respectively, receiving seeds and extension services, they planted vanilla, cardamom, ginger and cinnamon in only 1.8 hectares\u20140.6 and 1.2 in Unguja and Pemba, respectively.<\/p>\n

Answering a question by Kiwani Representative Mussa Foum Mussa over the fate of the 10-hectare spice project, Minister Nahoda said only four groups are currently attending to their farms and they haven’t started the harvest of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom.
