Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE new Chancellor of Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU), Anne Makinda has reminded the importance of adhering to ethics and respect among university students and staff, saying the two are main pillars for any person or institution to achieve goals.<\/p>\n

Ms Makinda issued the remarks on Friday during the ceremony to welcome her as new Chancellor of (HKMU). She was welcomed at a colourful ceremony held at the university grounds in the city.<\/p>\n

She said universities and other education institutions should change challenges they face into opportunities in order to increase efficiency and achieve good performance.<\/p>\n

She said trainings and certificates alone are not enough to introduce the university graduates, instead she emphasized on the need to adhere to ethical conduct and hard working in fulfilling their duties.<\/p>\n

\u201cRespect is the tool to make your university a unique institution, even success also comes from ethics and respect because when you are at work you are supposed to treat people with kind and respect,\u201d said Ms Makinda. Ms Makinda advised HKMU to come up with new sources of income instead of relying on tuition fees.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you retire you need to rest but I received this appointment with joy because I understand the importance of this University in improving the social welfare of Tanzanians,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

She said the good systems which were introduced by the late Prof Hubert Kairuki have enabled the university and the hospital to excel and help thousands of Tanzanians in different ways.<\/p>\n

The deputy minister said the government is currently going through names of those who have been acting for more than three years so that those who qualify can be confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have 1, 664 unqualified civil servants acting in number of senior positions and I call upon employers to promote qualified civil servants upon receiving permission from the Permanent Secretary,\u201d said Mr Ndejembi.<\/p>\n

Mr Ndejembi said the ministry has started gathering information for the establishment of a database which will help in confirming them. In the process, the deputy minister said 2,300 names will be taken for vetting in the first phase and that other 2,400 names will be submitted for vetting in the second phase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
