Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE Mzumbe University Chancellor Dr Ali Mohamed Shein on Thursday presided over a mini graduation ceremony for 142 graduates, being the first time since he was appointed to the position, last year.<\/p>\n

Dr Shein, who is the retired President of Zanzibar, was appointed the Mzumbe University Chancellor by the former President, the late John Magufuli.<\/p>\n

The graduation ceremony was held at the university\u2019s main campus in Morogoro, involving candidates who successfully completed their studies from the Mzumbe University\u2019s all the three campuses, and qualified for the award of certificates, diplomas and degrees for the academic year 2020\/2021.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the event, the University Council Chairman Prof Mathew Luhanga said the institution has focused on providing quality training on number of programmes being offered as well as producing the competent candidates, who will play a greater role in national development.<\/p>\n

For his part, the University\u2019s Vice-Chancellor Prof Lughano Kusiluka said apart from offering a number of programmes; the university has also invested a lot of efforts on practical training for the country to have graduates, who are able to create selfemployment.<\/p>\n

He said the university has also established a resource centre that is aimed at filling the knowledge gap among students in delivering and acquiring business education and skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe centre provides a platform for students to register their business ideas and get coaching on how best to exhaust after completing their studies at the college. This enables most of the graduates to venture into selfemployment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Expounding, Prof Kusiluka said the university is also running an 8.6bn\/- project aimed at providing distance health education in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project is conducted in collaboration with development partner countries and the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children,\u201d he said Prof Kusiluka.<\/p>\n

He added further that, out of 142 graduates, men were 77 and the remaining 65 are women. They are all from the university\u2019s three campuses of Morogoro, Dar es Salaam and Mbeya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
