Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE government through the Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) plans in 2022\/2023 to make a thorough assessment before reopening all railway routes that had been closed in order to determine a total price for rehabilitation of the railway lines, Parliament was told here on Monday.<\/p>\n

Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Mwita Waitara said the routes that will be opened include Kilosa \u2013 Kidatu and Manyoni \u2013 Singida, as he requested residents to remain calm as the government was working around the clock to open the routes.<\/p>\n

Mr Waitara was responding to a question by Special Seats lawmaker, Nusrat Hanje (CHADEMA), who demanded the government\u2019s statement as to why the central part of the railway from Manyoni to Singida was yet to be repaired.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy the government shouldn\u2019t repair that part so that it can help to boost the economy in the Singida region,\u2019\u2019 she asked.<\/p>\n

In his response, Mr Waitara said the ministry thought TRC was continuing with its plan to repair the current railway network as well as opening routes that had initially been closed in phases beginning with the main line.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn implementing this task, the government is considering the Five-Year National Development Plan (2021\/22-2025\/26, and it will equally continue with rehabilitation of the railway network including the Manyoni-Singida route depending on budgetary allocations and growth of the country\u2019s economy,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minister said the government understands that with appropriate railway infrastructure it was easier to attain the country\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n
