Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The accredited inspectors have been urged to play an active role in making sure that the mega flagship projects implemented in various parts of the country meet the required standards.<\/p>\n

Some of the huge projects currently being implemented are namely the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), construction of bridges and purchase of new ships.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a need for accredited inspectors to play their role in these projects particularly in the inspection of the raw materials and other goods used to avoid implementing projects below standards,\u201d said Mr Lazaro Mwambole from the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS)<\/p>\n

Mr Mwambole made the remarks while representing the TBS Director General, Yusuf Ngenya in an event to mark the Accreditation Day in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday. The Day was commemorated globally on June 9th, this year.<\/p>\n

He called upon all stakeholders in the procurement value chain to use the metrology laboratory using international systems for getting correct measurements that are accepted globally.<\/p>\n

For example in developed countries, he said the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable development Agenda will be accomplished using measurements and services provided by institutions with competencies in measuring, laboratory metrologies, inspection and quality assurance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn these developed countries, using institutions with competencies in making measurements is an important criterion in addressing impediments in business and contribute to economic growth and alleviate poverty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He advised stakeholders to look at ways for which they can use the accreditation and competency as a way to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.<\/p>\n

Mr Mwambole said the technical advice is given by institutions and authorities to provide accreditation competency in giving the services.<\/p>\n
