Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>MINISTER for Works and Transport will formulate good policies for the promotion of competition in the provision of marine transport services and shipping business in the country.<\/p>\n

This was revealed yesterday by Minister for Works and Transport, Dr Leonard Chamuriho during the launch of the new TASAC\u2019s Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

He further said, the government is set to review laws and regulations governing the Tanzania Shipping Agency Corporation (TASAC), to address sectoral challenges as much as possible, to enable all stakeholders to carry out their duties effectively.<\/p>\n

Dr Chamuriho said the board he launched is supposed to work with the ministry as well as closely cooperate with the management of TASAC, so that they fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with the laws, regulations and procedures.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he instructed the board to address operational challenges as soon as possible, especially those pertaining to business responsibilities, to ensure the best possible and cost-effective services to customers.<\/p>\n

Minister Chamuriho also directed the board in collaboration with stakeholders, to work on legal challenges and submit their recommendations to the ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo and review laws that need to be changed and submit them to the ministry for it to table them inthe Parliament for amendments in accordance with existing procedures, so that administrative challenges are addressed by the management of TASAC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He believes the board will work professionally and ensure that it meets the expectations of the government and the general public.<\/p>\n

Dr Chamuriho also urged the board to adhere to the documentations and guidelines issued by the Registrar of Treasury, to ensure that the service structure is completed and fully implemented as well as to oversee the collection of all government revenue and expenditure.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Works and Transport Gabriel Migire said the marine transport was important for economic growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are boundaries between the board and management. It is good to respect those boundaries, so that the work can go smoothly,\u201d Mr Migire said.<\/p>\n

TASAC Director General, Kaimu Mkeyenge said that since the start of the agency in February 2018, they have been regulating business and managing environmental conservation, cutting across the maritime sector<\/p>\n
