{"id":33615,"date":"2021-07-27T16:31:46","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T16:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=33615"},"modified":"2021-07-27T14:27:58","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T14:27:58","slug":"govt-hails-crdb-for-supporting-agricultural-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/govt-hails-crdb-for-supporting-agricultural-sector","title":{"rendered":"Govt hails CRDB  for supporting  agricultural sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE government has commended CRDB Bank Plc for supporting the agricultural sector that has improved millions of lives of most Tanzanians who depend on the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Bukoba District Commissioner, Moses Machali made the remarks on behalf of the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Major Gen Charles Mbuge, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the CRDB, National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Kagera Cooperative Union (KCU 1990 Ltd).<\/p>\n<p>Under the MoU, farmers in Kagera Region through their Agricultural and Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) will benefit by registering under the \u201cUshirika Afya\u201d scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Ushirika Afya scheme a farmer would pay a mere 76,800\/- to enable members get medical treatment in all health facilities including referral hospitals all the year while for a child under 18 years pay 50,400\/-.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CDRB has been supporting the government efforts to improve the agricultural sector. Most of the farmers lacked health insurance cover and instead spend a lot of money to get medical treatment while others simply die at home for lack of money. Acting General Manager for CRDB Insurance representing Chief Commercial Officer (DCCO) for CRDB, Mr Wilson Mnzava explained that during 2020\/21 the Bank released about 735bn\/- for agricultural loans, which is equivalent of 43 per cent of all the loans that were disbursed in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of the amount, about 494bn\/- was directed to Cooperative Unions also benefitting at least 472 AMCOS countrywide. The CRDB is committed to support and improve the agricultural sector and Cooperatives in the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mnzava also said under the MoU, the bank would pay the 76,800\/- premium for each farmer who would repay the premium after one year without any interest.<\/p>\n<p>KCU (1990 Ltd) General Manager, Mr Edson Rugaimukamu said that the 2021\/22 crop buying season started on May 1, this year while the Union started collecting coffee from the AMCOS in June adding that within the past two months the farmers had already been paid over 5bn\/- for their crops.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thank the CRDB and NHIF for supporting the farmers with Ushirika Afya scheme. This will greatly enable the farmers to increase productivity. During the past three years coffee production in the region increased from 52,000 metric tonnes during 2018\/19 to 78,300 metric tonnes during 2020\/21 enabling farmers to pocket about 96.4bn\/-. Farmers are encouraged to plant clonal coffee varieties which are resistant to coffee wilt disease (CWD), for increased yields and earn more money,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Tanzania.
