Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>WOMEN engineers in the country have been urged to practice their profession with diligence and help the government to solve various problems existing in communities.<\/p>\n

This was said recently in Dar es Salaam by the Institute of Engineers Tanzania – Women Chapter (IET-WC) Chairperson Eng Upendo Haule, during an event to mark the 6th Tanzania Women Engineers Convention and Exhibition (TAWECE).<\/p>\n

She said time has come for female engineers to always adhere to the code of ethics as one way of doing their work with the highest degree of integrity. \u201cSo far, we have managed to visit eight schools in various regions in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mtwara and Mbeya, as well as holding a forum in Kisarawe District, where more than 100 students were given knowledge on how IET-WC works,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Elaborating on some of the challenges they encounter, Haule picked lack of adequate funds to finance various programmes, plus lack of awareness from people on how they do various roles as some of the factors dragging them backwards.<\/p>\n

On her part, Zanzibar Chief Secretary and Secretary of the Revolutionary Council, Eng Zena Ahmed said through the IET-WC, women can discover different opportunities which can lead to development. \u201cWhile doing your work, always look around to identify economic chances available so that you can become entrepreneurs and be able to uplift your lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In the same token, the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Registrar, Eng Patrick Barozi said ERB has a role to regulate engineering practice in Tanzania, thereby enhancing competitiveness and professionalism in the engineering practice.<\/p>\n

He added that up to now, the board has registered over 31724 engineers in the country, who are registered at various levels, and that out of them, 3544 are women engineers representing 11 per cent. \u201cWe are in discussions with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to ensure women engineers during their training in remote areas countrywide have access to better health services,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
