Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>AZAM were the first to grab Kagame Cup semis ticket after defeating Le Massager of Ngozi, Burundi 1-0 in their second group B match at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n

Yesterday’s victory earned Azam six points that place them directly to the tournament’s semi-final stage even if they lose their final group B match against KMKM of Zanzibar.<\/p>\n

Azam, who began their Kagame Cup campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA), played an entertaining football in all sections despite fielding the youths from the second-string squad.<\/p>\n

Azam play their last group match against KMKM on Sunday at the same venue. It was an exciting game, with both sides showing diligence in seeking the group\u2019s lead in the tight encounter.<\/p>\n

Despite the quality of both teams, some players were stars in the match; this included Awesu Awesu, Tepsi Evancy and Oscar Masai on Azam side.<\/p>\n

Awesu looked the best in the midfield section as he built a connection between his team’s defence and attacking sides. The bond of Evancy at the right-wing and his outstanding quality in the ball control gave Messager Ngozi’s defenders difficulties every time he touched the ball. In addition to the quality of the ball control, he created several chances for his team that included the goal assist.<\/p>\n

Masai was a quiet defender who stood solid to protect his team from several attempts at his side. As for Messager, Raoul Vyamungu and Ismail Nizigiyimana were thorns for Ice cream-makers as they frequently made attempts to break through Azam defence, but the integrity of the goalkeeper and his defence line Azam was safe.<\/p>\n

At the 23rd minute of the game, the Ice cream-makers stamped a lead after Iddi Kipagwile completed a finely crafted pass from Evancy in the right-wing.<\/p>\n

Azam’s goal boosted Messager side’s quest to seek an equalising goal. They made attempts in the 27th minute through Vyamungu and 29th minute through Nizigiyimana, but the solid defender, Masai, thwarted all the attempts. Paul Peter had the opportunity to double for Azam at the 30th minute, but his attempt went wide.<\/p>\n

The referee called off for a break three minutes before Akbar Mudire was close to putting it level, but Benedict Haule saved it well. Kipagwile attempted to double it at the 73rd minute as he struck a few meters out of the penalty box, but his attempt went wide despite being close to extending the goal margin.<\/p>\n

As the minutes flew to a close, the Messager created two dangerous chances that would have given them goals, but both did not harm Azam’s side. Messagers got a chance in the 77th minute through Cedrick Urasenga, who fired a powerful strike from Azam defence miscommunication, but his strike went wide.<\/p>\n

They got another chance in the 80th minute through Ali Fataki, but his attempt did not bear fruits. Despite both teams playing a classy game, the game also witnessed two players shown red cards from both sides.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
