Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has extended her condolence message to the family, relatives and friends of the fallen former Minister for Finance Basil Mramba, who died in Dar es Salaam last Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Mramba died aged 81 as he was receiving treatment at the Regency Hospital in Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n

In her condolence message, President Samia eulogised the late Mramba for his great contribution in the development of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m saddened by the demise of Mr Mramba, my prayers to the almighty God to grant strengths to the family, relatives and those who have been touched by the passing of their beloved one,\u201d said President Samia in a statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications.<\/p>\n

She said the late Mramba, who led the Finance Ministry between 2001 and 2005, would be remembered for his positive contributions during his time of service in the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring his lifetime and tenure in the civil service, the late Mramba made a good contribution to the country; he will be remembered for all the good things,\u201d said President Samia.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Mramba\u2019s son Godfrey Mramba announced the death of his father who served in various government administrations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith great sadness, the Mramba\u2019s family hereby announces the passing on of our beloved father, Basil Pesambili Mramba; a life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered,\u201d Godfrey said in a brief statement.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the late Mramba “succumbed to illness at the Regency Medical Center earlier this morning, August 17th this year,\u201d<\/p>\n

Mramba was born on May 15th, 1940. He served as a Member of Parliament for Rombo constituency in Kilimanjaro Region for 20 years. He assumed the role of Mbeya Regional Commissioner between 1995-2000.<\/p>\n

He also served in different ministerial portfolios during the third phase government under former President, the late Benjamin Mkapa.<\/p>\n

During the fourth-phase regime, under the former President Jakaya Kikwete, Mr Mramba served as the Minister for Infrastructure between January and October 2006 before he was transferred to head the Ministry of Industry and Trade (2006-2008).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
