Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) in Rukwa Region has collected over 19.7bn\/- for the 2020\/21 financial year which is equivalent to 128 per cent above the collection target of 15.5bn\/-, it has been disclosed here in the municipality yesterday.<\/p>\n

Rukwa Regional TRA Manager, Mr Fredrick Kanyilili disclosed this during a one day seminar focused on Education on Financial Acts which provide changes in tax laws made during the fiscal year of 2021.<\/p>\n

The seminar which was held yesterday here in the municipality was opened and closed by Rukwa Regional Commissioner Joseph Mkirikiti.<\/p>\n

It was coordinated by TRA and attracted business people based in Sumbawanga town.<\/p>\n

“We are happy indeed to announce that until June 30th this year TRA in Rukwa Region managed to collect a total of 19.7bn\/-.<\/p>\n

Mr Kanyilili attributed the good performance to tax compliance from taxpayers continued education and more usage of Electrical Fiscal Devices (EFD’s).<\/p>\n

Other strategies include frequent reminders through text messages, adverts through radios and public vehicle announcements and team spirit of TRA employers and support from other government institutions.<\/p>\n

RC Mkirikiti appealed to Tanzanians to pay taxes as required by the laws to enhance economic development and avoid unnecessary inconveniences that may occur due to non-compliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll business people in the region must ensure they pay the taxes on time. This will enable the government to render the necessary services including health, education and other sectors,” emphasized the RC.<\/p>\n

Equally, the RC urged entrepreneurs to be honest and trustful when conducting their businesses in the line with government directives.<\/p>\n

\u201cBusiness people should not hesitate to expose big traders who intend to cheat by using small scale traders and hawkers to avoid paying taxes,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

He further urged TRA to support the government initiatives by educating people on the essence of paying taxes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will speed up the nation’s development. This will be realized via tax compliance,” the RC further explained.<\/p>\n

The TRA’s Director for Taxpayer Services and Education, Mr Richard Kayombo appealed to taxpayers to visit the nearest TRA offices for necessary guidance and also urged traders to ensure they utilize EFD’s while customers must demand a receipt for goods they procure.<\/p>\n
