{"id":36656,"date":"2021-09-15T15:49:56","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T15:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=36656"},"modified":"2021-09-15T14:51:05","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T14:51:05","slug":"census-mapping-exercise-stands-at-45-per-cent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/census-mapping-exercise-stands-at-45-per-cent","title":{"rendered":"Census mapping exercise  stands at 45 per cent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>THE census mapping exercise for the 2022 population and housing census in all hamlets, streets and shehias in the Mainland and Zanzibar currently stands at 45 per cent, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Mapping exercise entails a census of built up infrastructure in the country.<\/p>\n<p>It involves taking satellite pictures of the entire country, identifies all built up structures through office digitisation, and then goes on the ground to verify each and every built-up structure.<\/p>\n<p>This allows the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)ate various databases of built up structures in the country such as houses, clinics, schools etc. It not only provides information necessary for socio-economic development, but also serves as a basis for a successful 2022 census.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Majaliwa, who doubles as Chairman of the National Census Committee made the observation during the launching of the Publicity and Advocacy Strategy for the 2022 National Population and Housing census, held yesterday in the capital Dodoma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am assuring you that preparations for the forthcoming census exercise in August 2022 are proceeding as per the dustrialization, as indicated in the FYDP III with the aim of reducing poverty and boosting the economy of individuals and the country, while also creating jobs for the many unemployed youth in the country,\u201d noted the PM. He said such cannot be achieved without the presence of official statistics, which in turn, can help to measure its implementation.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that implementation of the sixth census exercise will go as planned; stressing that everyone who will wake up in Tanzania during the morning of the census in August 2022 will be counted. Zanzibar Minister of State in the Second Vice-President\u2019s Office, Police, Coordination and the House of Representatives, Dr Khalid Salum Mohamed, revealed that the rolled out Publicity and Advocacy Strategy is participatory.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mohamed, who was representing the Second Vice-President Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, who is also a Co-chairman of the census committee said the goal is to sensitise and mobilise the entire country and population to indeed participate in the census exercise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe results of the census will increase the use of statistics in planning for the development and allocation of resources for the development of the nation,\u201d noted Dr Mohamed. He noted that the statistics will help in the assessment of the Zanzibar Development Plan of 2021\/22 to 2025\/26, which is part of the implementation of the Vision 2050.<\/p>\n<p>The vision focuses on boosting the blue economy for inclusive growth and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, urged every member of the public to be good ambassadors in encouraging one another to participate in the forthcoming census on August, 2022, for the exercise to be carried out effectively.<\/p>\n<p>NBS Chief Statisticians, Dr Albina Chuwa said the sixth population and housing census in August next year involve digital collection of data dubbed as E-census.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis marks a great milestone in the country\u2019s history since the first census was carried out.<\/p>\n<p>The first five census exercises employed paper technology,\u201d said Dr Chuwa.
