Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>At least 100 people living with disabilities were supported with artificial limbs by Dar es Salaam-based Kamal Group in efforts to empower them walk and concentrate on their socoi-economic activities.<\/p>\n

The limbs were presented to representatives of the 77 beneficiaries during a brief event that was held at Kerege, Bagamoyo in the Coast Region at the weekend.<\/p>\n

This brings the total number of artificial limbs that the company has donated during the past seven years to over 1,000.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the event to hand over the artificial limbs to the beneficiaries, the Regional Commissioner for Coast, Mr Abubakar Kunenge called upon residents in the area to make good use of the investment projects that were being set up by various investors.<\/p>\n

He said the Coast Region was home to about 130,000 who needed artificial limbs and thus would need to receive such support.<\/p>\n

Mr Kunenge called upon residents of the Coast Region to cultivate a culture of the love for work, saying a lot of mega projects were being mulled in the area, hence the need for them to be active participants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem is that most of our people in this region are quite unproductive. They don\u2019t love working,\u201d he said, urging them to grab the opportunity that comes with Kamal\u2019s Group\u2019s cashew nut processing project.<\/p>\n

Under the project, Kamal Group had managed to secure over 100 Tanzanians who will be given space at its Industrial area at Bagamoyo so they can own and operate small scale cashew nut processing factories.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the District Commissioner for Bagamoyo, Ms Zainabu Issa said her area was home to a total of 145 industries, saying the Kamal Industrial Park offered another opportunity for the area to flourish.<\/p>\n

Through its subsidiary, Kamal Agro Limited, the city-based conglomerate has come up with an ambitious project that will see hundreds of Tanzanians becoming active participants in their country\u2019s industrialisation agenda.<\/p>\n

According to Kamal Group\u2019s Managing Director, Mr Sameer Gupta said the company has been donating the artificial limbs through its Peoples\u2019 Empowerment Foundation (PEF).<\/p>\n

Through the PEF, said Mr Gupta, Kamal Group seeks to empower people with disabilities so they can go about their various income-generating activities with much ease.<\/p>\n

\u201cEconomic opportunities for people with disabilities are limited due to many reasons. Through these prosthetic limbs projects, we are playing our key role of empowering people with disabilities so they can go about their income-generating activities easily,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
