TANZANIAN top golfer Madina Iddi has been drawn in group five together with hosts Kaylan Boshof and Danielle Bekker at the 2020 South Africa Stroke-Play Championship.<\/p>\n
Organised by the Women Golf South Africa (WSGA), the 54 holes tournament set to tee off today at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club in South Africa and wind up on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It will be followed by the Match-play Golf tournament that will tee off from Wednesday to Friday at the same course.<\/p>\n
Madina, who left Dar es Salaam on Friday morning ready for the same, told the \u2018Sunday News\u2019 from Johannesburg yesterday that she arrived safely and was looking forward for the tough battle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank God I had smooth trip down here, I\u2019m also in good health ready for the tee off at event that brings together experienced and top golfers in Africa,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She had at least two days of practice to get familiar with the course and South African weather before entering into business today.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe course is fantastic, greens are very challenging as usual, but all these make golf even more interesting. I will have to be calm and remained focus,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Madina headed to South African after winning Eldoret Ladies Open stable ford title in Kenyan last week, the tournament she used as preparations for the South African battle.<\/p>\n
The defending champion of the All Africa Golf Challenge (AACT) at the individual level, understands that Johannesburg battle will be different compared to the Kenyan event as most of her competitors have plus handicap.<\/p>\n
Madina, who currently plays off handicap 2, will be among six visitors from other part of Africa in the field of over 76 competitors.<\/p>\n
Among Madina\u2019s opponents are Ugandan top golfers–Irene Nakalembe, Peace Kabasweka, who recently won Tanzania Ladies Open championship and Wendy Angudeyo, who recently won the Indian Ocean battle in Zanzibar.<\/p>\n
Madina, who helped Tanzania to finish second overall behind dominant South Africa in the continental level tournament held in Ghana in 2018, said she will use the event as trials before the AACT biannual event to be staged in Namibia from March 29th to April 3rd this year<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
