Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>KAGERA Regional Commissioner (RC), Major General Charles Mbuge has directed leaders on border villages to screen aliens before they are allowed to enter the country.<\/p>\n

Equally, he appealed to residents in the region to report aliens to authorities for necessary measures.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople should use border areas to do business and improve their standards of living provided that they satisfy all the legal requirements. Our role as government is to make sure that these people are benefiting but they should follow immigration regulations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Mbuge explained that generally, security in the region is under control. However, all the leaders, especially those on border villages should screen the aliens by filling special forms before they enter the country, he said.<\/p>\n

Kagera region shares borders with four East African Community (EAC) nationsRwanda, Burundi, Uganda and Kenya across Lake Victoria. About 161 illegal immigrants were nabbed by the Immigration Department on June 9 this year, for entering and living in the United Republic of Tanzania without permits.<\/p>\n

Acting Kagera Regional Immigration Officer (RIO), Mr Thomas Fussi said the aliens included 152 Burundi nationals, seven Rwandese and two Ugandans, adding that the prohibited immigrants were nabbed in Karagwe District following a twoday operation mounted by the department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
