Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>MINISTER for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, has tasked heads of institutions under her docket to bring reforms in their institutions for positive impact on Tanzanians and improving socio-economic development.<\/p>\n

The minister further challenged them to make their institutions contribute significantly to enabling the ministry rise its contribution to the national income.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis ministry has a big role of effectively empowering citizens in using the ICT and access information which has positive effects to their social and economic activities,\u201d Dr Kijaji stated o in Dodoma on Monday, when she held a strategic meeting with heads of institutions.<\/p>\n

This was her first meeting with all heads of institutions after she was sworn in three weeks ago to lead the ministry.<\/p>\n

The meeting, among others, aimed at familiarizing with each other, reminding them of their duties in implementing pledges given by the government from the CCM\u2019s election manifesto (2020-2025).<\/p>\n

She argued that the ministry is an empowering entity, yet it has for the past four years been contributing only 1.5 per cent to the national income, something which she thought was not right, considering that the nation was heading towards a digital economy, which the ministry and its institutions have to look at how they can contribute in brining changes in their contributions to the national economy.<\/p>\n

She further told the bosses of the institutions to embrace patriotism and bring real meaning of the positions they hold by ensuring better services to Tanzanians.<\/p>\n

Commenting, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Zainab Chaula, detailed on the objectives of the meeting, saying it was meant to familiarize the minister with the heads of institutions and remind them on implementing their responsibilities of providing better services to citizens.<\/p>\n

Acting Post Master General of the Tanzania Posts Corporation, Macrise Mbodo said the meeting was useful since it created mutual understanding between executives of the institutions and the ministry regarding expectations of the ministry from the institutions\u2019 performance.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by heads of various public institutions, including the Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN), which is the publisher of the Daily News, Sunday News, HabariLeo, HabariLeo Jumapili and SpotiLeo.<\/p>\n

Other bosses were from Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Tanzania TTCL Company, Universal Communication Service Access Fund (UCSAF), Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC), and others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
