{"id":38612,"date":"2021-10-13T15:34:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/?p=38612"},"modified":"2021-10-13T14:40:10","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T14:40:10","slug":"health-experts-calls-african-countries-to-embrace-telemedicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/all-news\/health-experts-calls-african-countries-to-embrace-telemedicine","title":{"rendered":"Health experts calls African countries to embrace telemedicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>HEALTH experts are calling on authorities to bank on health innovative solutions including adopting telemedicine strategy in healthcare services as an effort to cut down physical contact\u2014a necessity approach during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>They say African countries need to embrace telemedicine as a way of changing approaches in health services in response to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>They were speaking during a virtual meeting entitled, \u201cthe Future of Health: Innovation on the Home front.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder and Director of Rocket Heath Africa, Dr. John Bwanika, said that the pandemic has further brought the need to have African health innovators for building health systems based on their local contexts.<\/p>\n<p>She said telemedicine will to a great extent reduce and avoid the risk of infection through contact.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from that, countries must build the internal capacity of their health systems to reduce dependency on foreign support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the big lessons shared is the need to embrace digital health (telemedicine) to reduce possibilities of infections. Also to reduce time wastage while going to the hospital and back home\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The founder noted that another challenge was a shortage of equipment and medicines,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is crucial that we redefine what is essential and define what the future of healthcare in Africa looks like,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Dr. Bwanika said that African countries must build their internal capacity to overcome pandemics.<\/p>\n<p>He said the experience had shown that during the first wave, there was a shortage of protective gear such as face masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>For her part, the Deputy Director of Research, Aswani Heart Centre Yasmine Aquib said it was time to design the research to serve the needy. She said African countries must develop a way of testing and accessibility of kits packages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has totally changed people\u2019s lives.
