{"id":3882,"date":"2020-02-18T14:29:54","date_gmt":"2020-02-18T14:29:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/tanzania\/?p=3882"},"modified":"2020-02-18T14:29:54","modified_gmt":"2020-02-18T14:29:54","slug":"n-m-b-issues-22b-n-to-songwe-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/tanzania\/economy\/n-m-b-issues-22b-n-to-songwe-farmers","title":{"rendered":"N M B ISSUES 22B N\/- TO SONGWE FARMERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IN a bid to promote agriculture and improve farmers\u2019 welfare, NMB Bank has issued 22bn\/- loans for farmers in Songwe region .<\/p>\n<p>The bank said the loans were issued from their five branches located in the region one each at Mbozi, Tunduma, Mlowo, Mkwajuni and Ileje.<\/p>\n<p>NMB Head of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Filbert Mponzi said they managed to lend Songwe\u2019s farmer because of the good business environment laid down by the government for both lender and borrower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the right way to attract investors and we recognize their contributions, besides exposing areas\u2019 potentials, where they should invest in,\u201d Mr Mponzi said during the three-day Songwe\u2019s Investment Forum that ended yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The forum was presided over by the Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa who was presented by Minister of State in Prime Minister\u2019s Office (Investment), Angellah Kairuki.<\/p>\n<p>Also Songwe Regional Commissioner Brigadier General (rtd) Nicodemus Elius Mwangela who led the region investors and traders at the forum.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mponzi further said that NMB has been prioritizing agriculture promotion and small scale entrepreneurs to invest in economic activities which are vibrant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNMB has issued loans to over a million farmers [countrywide], especially in cashew nut, coffee, tobacco, cotton, rice, beans and maize cultivations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Also issued loans to small and medium scale entrepreneurs and recognizing petty traders, who are majority in the informal sector in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The government has 31.8 per cent stake in NMB.
