Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>CASHEWNUT Board of Tanzania (CBT) has said Mtwara Port will export all cashew nuts brought from Mtwara, Lindi and Ruvuma in this season as per government\u2019s directives.<\/p>\n

CBT Chairman, Brigadier General (rtd) Aloyce Mwanjile said yesterday that people and firms buying cashews in the regions in 2021\/2022 should not worry about transport issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to assure the business people and other firms that all the cashews will be transported through Mtwara port. The government and other authorities are working on the plan to transport the cashews starting this season,\u201d the chairman said.<\/p>\n

Brig Gen Mwanjile said the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) and other stakeholders are making various efforts to bring a vessel to ship out cashew nuts via Mtwara port.<\/p>\n

He said the vessel will call at the port once enough tonnages are collected to load the ship. So far, according to CBT, 17,000 tonnes of cashew nuts have been bought, but the consignment was not enough for a ship to call the port. A standard ship needs at least 30,000 tonnes.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the CBT urged the business people to consider providing better prices that will enable farmers to meet cost of production in the next farming seasons.<\/p>\n

Six auctions have been conducted since the start of this season, almost 10 days ago where some 17.45 million tonnes have been sold at between 2,100\/- and 2,445\/- per kilogramme. This season some 170,000 tonnes are expected to be sold in Mtwara.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
