Africa-Press<\/a> – Tanzania<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>OVER 110,000 pupils from 100 primary schools in four regions and Zanzibar have been trained on road safety and are expected to spread knowledge to their fellows, a move intended to save them from accidents.<\/p>\n

The training conducted during this year was engineered by the Puma Energy Tanzania in collaboration with the Police Force and Non-governmental organization called \u2018AMEND\u2019. The Puma Energy Tanzania has, through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), been rebranding as major stakeholder of the road safety in the country.<\/p>\n

Company\u2019s Managing Director Dominic Dhanah said the training went along with engaging students in road safety competition, which included sketching road signs ahead of the this year\u2019s Road Safety Week.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the company handed over awards to winners of the competition, an event which was held at Kalangalala Primary School in Geita region.<\/p>\n

In Geita region the oneyear training programme benefited 12,000 pupils from five schools. Mr Dhanah noted that they decided to bring awareness on road safety in Geita region because the regions was growing fast and socio-economic activities have increased including road traffic, something which also poses threats to safety of children on roads \u201cWe have trained 12,000 pupils from five schools in Geita region. The training is our priority aimed at creating awareness among children over proper use of roads,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

He said the Puma Energy Tanzania looks forward to reaching out to many more schools, vowing that the company would continue investing in road safety campaigns in collaboration with government through the Police Force in order to save lives of Tanzanians. On his part, Traffic Police motor vehicle inspector for Geita region, Emmanuel Shagaya, urged trained pupils to be ambassadors of road safety education.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo and educate your parents at home and insist them to observe road safety while on roads,\u201d he told the pupils. He argued that it was important to focus on road safety awareness due to increased socio-economic activities that contribute to road accidents.<\/p>\n

On his part, Kalangalala ward councilor Prudence Temba, emphasized on importance of emphasizing on proper use of roads. Mr Masumbuko Magang\u2019bila, an official from the office of regional education officer, thanked Puma Energy Tanzania for educating pupils in the region; a move he said would help in saving lives of residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
