Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>THE National Council of People Living with HIV in Tanzania (NACOPHA) has donated various items to people living with HIV in Temeke Municipality to support the government\u2019s efforts in combating Covid- 19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The items include sanitizer, hand washing soaps, ten baskets, masks, 2,650 and one motorcycle for the cluster to make sure they protect themselves from the pandemic while executing their work.<\/p>\n

The support financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through NACOPHA, was handed over yesterday by the Temeke Municipality\u2019s HIV Control Coordinator, Ms Pili Mtauchila.<\/p>\n

Sheasked the people living with HIV in Temeke municipality to use the items they received for the intended purposes. She said the government will ensure the livelihoods of people living with HIV go smoothly with reduced stigma.<\/p>\n

Ms Mtauchila said the support provided to the centers will fast track delivery and dissemination of information and facilitate the coordination of such activities at the grassroots level. NACOPHA Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr Sigstance Michael, said the aid provided was a continuation of the USAID-funded project, dubbed \u2018Hebu Tujijenge\u2019 with the aim at ensuring provision of HIV education.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis support is to facilitate monitoring of activities being carried out in five wards and will also help to encourage testing and those affected to continue using the drugs,\u201d said Mr Michael.<\/p>\n

Mr Michael said USAID has been committed to help people living with HIV with the aim of ensuring the communities were aware of how to reduce new infections and the proper use of ARVs. He said the aid could raise awareness about their health and how best to protect themselves from infectious diseases.<\/p>\n

Representative of people living with HIV in Temeke Council, Ms Elizabeth Sangu expressed gratitude to USAID through NACOPHA and promised to continue providing education on testing and proper use of medicines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough this support we will continue to educate people who have been infected with HIV, especially those who have stopped taking antiretroviral drugs to continue using the medicines and encourage more people to go for HIV testing,\u201d said Sangu.<\/p>\n

She said the presence of the cluster in the council has helped people living with HIV to be confident. On his part, Temeke Council Project Manager Japhes Mulokozi, while receiving the aid, commended USAID and said it would reduce the transport challenge to clusters.<\/p>\n
