Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ARUSHA City Mayor, Mr Maxmillian Iranqhe has expressed satisfaction on the ongoing construction of cubicles that will house petty traders at the proposed Kilombero Market area.<\/p>\n

Speaking shortly after his brief tour of the project, Mr Iranqhe said he was delighted with the pace of the construction of the stalls at Block 68, noting that it was only a matter of time before the traders move into the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m actually impressed with the ongoing construction, I hope the petty traders will be happy with their new surroundings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Mayor had earlier in the day met with engineers overseeing the project, where urged them to finish the project on time as per Arusha Regional Commissioner, Mr John Mongella\u2019s directive.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it is possible you need to introduce night shifts,\u201d advised the city mayor.<\/p>\n

He, however, called on the engineers to exhibit professionalism as they execute the work and deliver to the government a project that meets standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will probably be their permanent place of doing business. You are therefore expected to deliver something which can last longer,\u201d he challenged.<\/p>\n

The ongoing construction of the cubicles at Kilombero Market is on its second week, with the office of the regional commissioner mulling over plans of relocating the petty traders to the area.<\/p>\n

Challenges regarding the management of petty traders – commonly known as machingas are increasingly becoming vivid in major urban centres, prompting the need for an urgent solution by the government.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, the petty traders sought an audience with President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the local authorities countrywide started relocating them to new areas.<\/p>\n

Through their association, the Machingas want to brief the President on the challenges they face in conducting their businesses and how the<\/p>\n
