Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>VICE-PRESIDENT Philip Mpango on Sunday issued a strong warning to leaders who engage in unnecessary quarrels and misunderstandings instead of cooperating to serve the public that such unhealthy relations backpeddle the country\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

Taking the stance at President Samia Suluhu Hassan\u2019s swearing in of new leaders in the ministries and the National Electoral Commission (NEC) at the State House in Dar es Salaam, on Suday he further said Tanzanians want them to deliver and not otherwise.<\/p>\n

The appointees include Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports Innocent Bashungwa and his deputy Pauline Gekul and the Deputy Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology, Kundo Mathew.<\/p>\n

The list also included the Commissioners for the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Judge Jacob Mwatebela, Magdalena Rwebangira and Hasina Omary.<\/p>\n

In his message, Dr Mpango urged public leaders, citing the ministers, deputy ministers and permanent secretaries in their areas of work to embrace unity and refrain from unnecessary squabbles.<\/p>\n

He further said President Samia made it clear that she wants leaders to work and serve Tanzanians, instead of taking time in unnecessary wrangles, which are unfruitful to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President appointed you to serve in your positions simply because she believes in your abilities, therefore, there is no reason to brag…we want you to deliver,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n

Elaborating, the Vice-President urged the newly sworn-in NEC commissioners to stand by the oath of office they took, adding that they steer sensitive elections, which are rights of every Tanzanian.<\/p>\n

In the exercise, President Samia Suluhu Hassan tasked the appointees to effectively deliver in their areas of work for the development of the country.<\/p>\n

It is expected that appointment of the leaders will contribute to high standards of accountability in the information and communication sector and keep pace with technological advancement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge you to be accountable in your respective positions for Tanzania to make a step forward in its development,\u201d said President Samia.<\/p>\n

She equally directed Mr Mathew to practice and reinforce justice in the new docket of Information that has been merged in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Information Technology.<\/p>\n

On his part, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa applauded the efforts taken by President Samia in ensuring development projects are executed in various parts of the country.<\/p>\n

He pledged to continue supervising the execution of the projects so that they are complet- ed on time and serve the intended purposes.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the NEC appointments, Mr Majaliwa said they have confidence on the commission that has continued to deliver and make the country excel in various general elections they supervise.<\/p>\n

As for the Deputy Speaker, Dr Tulia Ackson NEC leadership should devise a mechanism of conducting timely election preparations and rehearsals instead of waiting last minute to overcome and address unnecessary complaints against them.<\/p>\n

In another development, President Samia yesterday ap- pointed Prof Joseph Kuzilwa to be the Chairman of the Board of Hombolo Local Government Training Institute (LGTI).<\/p>\n

Prof Kuzilwa is a lecturer at the University of Mzumbe that is located in Morogoro Region.<\/p>\n
