Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>ECOBANK Tanzania is committed to raising awareness in the community in helping to prevent mental health issues, which have been affecting many people.<\/p>\n

Ecobank Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charles Asiedu, said this during the donation of chairs and patients’ clothing to the Mental Health Department at Muhimbili National Hospital.<\/p>\n

He added that there are still misconceptions about mental health in the community. As mental health problems can have a negative influence on homelessness, poverty, employment, safety, and the local economy.<\/p>\n

Mr Asiedu said the move is a part of Ecobank’s strategy to set aside a special day to support communities in the annual social responsibility celebrations that engage all communities within the African continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also used Ecobank 2021 day to disseminate this information to reach as many people as possible because now is the time to talk and act on issues related to Mental Health\u201d said Mr Asiedu.<\/p>\n

According to him, all 33 countries in Africa served with Ecobank have been engaged on Ecobank Day each year, to help the surrounding communities to achieve their goal of giving back to the community.<\/p>\n

This year the Ecobank Day celebrations took place last Friday with the motto \u2018Mental Health – It\u2019s Time to Talk and Act!\u2019<\/p>\n

Also, the slogan aimed at implementing Ecobank\u2019s three-year campaign to raise awareness and help prevent non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the bank has collaborated with ARIS Risk and Insurance services in the provision of mental health education to staff.<\/p>\n

The Head of the Department of Mental Health at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Dr Frank Masao, thanked Ecobank for their support as every year mental health patients have been increasing and leading to a shortage of health facilities that can assist in the provision of service.<\/p>\n

He also said that men are the leading cause of mental illness as in the last two years it has been shown that men are more numerous than women and the presence of covid-19 has led to increased mental illness due to obstruction or fear of citizens coming to seek treatment at the MNH.<\/p>\n
