Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>AHEAD of the 60th Tanzania\u2019s Independence celebrations, some media outlets have united for the \u2018common objective\u2019— to enliven the celebrations and impart knowledge on the country\u2019s history by using their ability of reaching out to the mass.<\/p>\n

The four local media houses include state-owned television (TBC), Mwananchi Communications Ltd (MCL), Clouds Media and Wasafi Media.<\/p>\n

They officially declared their unity yesterday in Dar es Salaam, with each of them giving commitment to achieve the intended objective.<\/p>\n

They declared their unity yesterday barely a day after Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, challenged the media to think of what they would do in contributing to celebrations of the 60th Independence Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we make history in Tanzania and Africa at large. This cooperation is a result of being together for the sake of our country; we are going to celebrate the country’s independence.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur country is big and we want to unite Tanzanians to celebrate independence and stress on patriotism, as well as look at challenges and chart the way forward,\u201d stated Mr Gabriel Nderumaki, TBC\u2019s Coordinator for Marketing and Production, who spoke on behalf of the corporation\u2019s Director General, Dr Ayoub Rioba.<\/p>\n

Mr Nderumaki argued that Tanzania has passed through different government phases, but many youths lacked knowledge.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the media could bridge that gap\u2026 we want to build the value of being Tanzanians for the sake of peace and development,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

He noted that the four media houses will be conducting different activities ahead of the Independence Day on 9th December.<\/p>\n

He said TBC will have several programmes and activities, including recognising the contribution of citizens and leaders who gave huge contribution to the country\u2019s independence and development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be collecting information about independence from different stakeholders\u2026All of us are going to tell about one thing (independence) and will also be reminding Tanzanians on our tradition and culture,\u201d he vowed.<\/p>\n

Mr Nderumaki further stated that the cooperation will lead to reaching out to many Tanzanians by spreading information, he said as they launched their logo with a message: \u2018\u201860 Pamoja, Tanzania Tena na Tena\u2019, which literally means \u201960 Together Again and Again\u2019.<\/p>\n

Commenting, Mr Joseph Kusaga, the Clouds Media Managing Director said the cooperation is going to realize what they had planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the current generation to know the country’s history, the media have a role to educate them as a way of giving back to the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Bakari Machumu, the MCL Managing Director said his company was happy to be part of a campaign to celebrate 60 years of independence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough this partnership, we are going to push for a message of campaigning for Covid-19 vaccination. We believe in collaboration\u2026there are some areas the media should cooperate. It makes business sense when the media with different specializations come together for national interests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Mr Nelson Kisanga, Director of Programmes with Wasafi Media, said the move was really a historic event for media houses to unite to celebrate 60th Independence Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis unity is going to bring huge reforms in the media industry since the media is very powerful,\u201d he said, urging Tanzanians to use independence and peace for bringing development.<\/p>\n
