Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>MINISTER for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, has called on the Civil Society Organization (CSOs) to timely submit their work reports to the ministry in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n

She also urged the CSOs to maintain the highest level of integrity and patriotism on their financial expenditures, bearing in mind that they are using donors\u2019 funds aimed at improving the lives of poor Tanzanians.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the good work done by the CSOs, the minister said there are still some, which do not do perform their duties as required, adding that the law governing them to be clear on their activities, and any deviation faces legal measures<\/p>\n

The minister made the remarks while delivering a special message for CSO Week 2021, during a gala dinner and awards ceremony held at Jesuit Youth Centre in Dodoma.<\/p>\n

“I have to admit that the CSOs have been doing a lot of work in support of the government’s efforts to improve service delivery to the people” she said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, she challenged CSOs to continue with the good work, since many Tanzanians still need a lot of services that the government alone cannot provide.<\/p>\n

At the same time, she urged the CSOs to ensure they reach out to many citizens in the implementation of various projects.<\/p>\n

During the event several CSOs, partners and sponsors got recognition awards for outstanding performances and contributions in different ways.<\/p>\n

The minister called on those who received the awards to continue cooperating with the government and provide public education on Covid-19.<\/p>\n

She added that CSOs should also provide education to the public on the importance of national population and housing census, adding that they directly work with people at different levels in the community.<\/p>\n

At the sidelines of the event, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, John Jingu also applauded the CSOs for their commitments in improving the lives of the people at the grassroots.<\/p>\n

He noted that the annual CSO Week is one of the best steps aimed at bringing CSOs, government and private sector together to discuss issues affecting the country and way forward.<\/p>\n

The PS further said, “Even the presentations and topics for discussion are very relevant to the national development drive”. However, he challenged CSOs to work together, because they all have the same goal of supporting the government fight poverty, diseases and ignorance among others.<\/p>\n

Earlier in her welcoming note, Save the Children’s Country Director, Bester Mulauzi, thanked the government for its work and cooperation with CSOs, saying the efforts are aimed at helping the common citizen succeed in his goal.<\/p>\n
