Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>PRIME MINISTER Kassim Majaliwa has urged national teams to do well in the big tournaments since Tanzanians are eager to see their nation performing in the global level events.<\/p>\n

The Premier said the national football team,Taifa Stars have a great chance of qualifying for the 2022 Qatar World Cup finals after securing seven points from their previous four games, with the Tanzanian outfit currently topping Group J.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister made the remarks yesterday when he met with the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Innocent Bashungwa, the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) leaders and football stakeholders at his office atMlimwa, Dodoma.<\/p>\n

“If we win against the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar, we shall have a good chance to qualify for the play-off stage and then to the World Cup finals. The government believes good cooperation between the stakeholders and TFF leaders is crucial in making us meet the desired goal.”<\/p>\n

The Premier said qualifying to the World Cup is an opportunity for the national team players to get recognised worldwide and hence get a chance to play in big clubs. “The advantage of having players in the big club is we have many international level players, unlike now we have a few such as Mbwana Samatta, Simon Msuva and Novatus Dismas,” said Majaliwa<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister insisted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan wants to see Taifa Stars performing well, the same as the national women’s team,Twiga Stars which recently won the 2021 COSAFA Championship in South Africa. For his side, Bashungwa called on Tanzanians and various football stakeholders to join hands to support Taifa Stars so that they do well in their remaining World Cup qualifying matches.<\/p>\n

“It will be a milestone to our nation as we celebrate 60 years of Independence; to also celebrate the national team qualify for the World Cup in Qatar for the first time.”<\/p>\n

He said the government was arranging a mechanism to enable the national team to travel to Madagascar on a chartered plane which would also have the opportunity to carry fans who would be willing to travel with the team.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Taifa Stars coach Kim Poulsen has unveiled a 27-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Congo DR and Madagascar. The full squad comprises goalkeepers: Aishi Manula (Simba SC), Metacha Mnata (Yanga SC) and Ramadhan Kabwili (Young Africans)<\/p>\n

Defenders: Shomari Kapombe (Simba SC), Kibwana Shomari (Young Africans), Israel Mwenda (Simba SC), Mohamed Hussein (Simba SC), Erasto Nyoni (Simba SC), Dickson Job (Yanga SC), Bakari Mwamnyeto (Yanga SC), Kennedy Juma (Simba SC) and Edward Manyama (Ruvu Shooting FC). Midfielders are: Lusajo Mwaikenda (Azam), Nickson Kababage (KMC FC), Meshack Mwamita (Kagera Sugar), Novatus Dismas (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Mzamiru Yassin (Simba SC), Feisal Salum (Yanga SC) and Zawadi Mauya (Yanga).<\/p>\n

Strikers are: Simon Msuva (Wydad AC), Idd Nado (Azam FC), Abdul Suleiman (Coastal Union), Mbwana Samatta (Royal Antwerp), Kibu Dennis (Simba SC), Reliant Lusajo (Namungo) and John Bocco (Simba SC).<\/p>\n
