Africa-Press – Tanzania. <\/strong><\/span>Tanzania’s mining Industry registered incredible transformation in the last 60 years supporting an equitable economy, helping the \u2018underprivileged\u2019 as well as supplying raw materials, according to the Minister for Minerals Dotto Biteko.<\/p>\n

Tanzania is the 4th largest gold producer in Africa after South Africa, Ghana and Mali.<\/p>\n

The mining industry experienced an estimated 17.7 per cent growth in 2019–the highest before and after independence.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased to 5.2 per cent in 2019 from 3.4 per cent in 2015.<\/p>\n

In 2020 it raised 6.7per cent of the GDP, up from 4.8 per cent in 2017.<\/p>\n

Mr Bitteko detailed that Gold artisanals accounted for 27 per cent of the government revenues collected in 2020\/21 up from 10 per cent the group accounted for in 2017\/18. The contribution of the mining sector to the economy stood at 7.7 per cent between April and June this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith these trends, there is no doubt that, by 2025 the contribution of the Mining Sector will reach 10 percent of GDP as expected,\u201d the Minister affirmed in Dodoma on Friday when giving highlights of the ministry\u2019s performance ahead of 60 years of Tanganyika independence.<\/p>\n
